Wireless SAW Temperature Sensor

SenGenuity is involved in the development of passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors and multi-sensor systems, enabling remote wireless sensing of temperature for demanding environments over wide temperature range. At the current time, SenGenuity utilizes proprietary approaches to produce passive solid-state SAW sensors that can be interrogated remotely using RF signals, and that respond with a signal that encodes both the sensor's identity and temperature measurements. Together with partners, SenGenuity is working on transceiver designs that are optimized given the SAW operating parameters, and implementing conventional and innovative wafer-level packaging approaches (for devices capable of withstanding extreme environments) for a complete wireless multi-sensor system.

The TFSS433D SAW temperature sensor is a 433.8MHz one-port SAW resonator structure specifically designed to have a linear frequency versus temperature characteristic and ideal for battery-less applications.  With a temperature coefficient of frequency of 16.2 ppm/°C   (~7028 Hz/°C), it is operable from 0 to 120°C.  The sensor has an unloaded Q of 8000, it is low loss (2.5dB max) and it is designed for a 50-ohm system.  When combined with an antennae and interrogation unit, this SAW sensor chip makes a great solution for numerous wireless temperature sensing applications.  Future developments on this product line are focused on expanding the usable temperature range to meet a greater range of applications.
